COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OFFICER -
Project - Balkal Bama Minday Wuban Mara Waban Wabaji "Making Bama Brave Strong and Busy"
Mossman Gorge community is located approximately 75 kilimetres north of Cairns, just outside the town of Mossman in the beautiful Mossman Gorge.
The community based organisation Bamanga Bubu Ngadimunku Aboriginal Corporation manages community land and services. (BBNAC). This land is extremely culturally significant to the Kuku Yalanji, who continue to maintain their cultural relationship with the Bubu and Jalun.
Bamanga Bubu Ngadimunku Aboriginal Corporation will transition over a period of time from one of service provider to empowerment, self-reliance, community development and representation significantly enhancing governance in the community. The position will take a lead role in ensuring that the transition of this new framework is supported by the community through community engagement using a change management and community development approach.
Knowledge of, and commitment to the principles of community development and empowerment.
The ability to work effectively and sensitively with indigenous people. Knowledge and understanding of matters of cultural sensitivity. Experience and proven success in motivating people, helping people find their pathways and achieve outcomes. Good planning, organisational, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication written and verbal communications skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to develop relationships with external stakeholders.
Understanding of Governance structures within the community.
Understanding of transitioning to new structures/frameworks.
Ability to work with current programs to ensure outcomes are reached.
Ability to develop required resources.
