Kids discover new worlds
Megan Masters 6th January 2010
Searching for hidden spiders is Jessica Sharpe.
JESSICA and Nikki Smith both remember the searing sting of a nettle and aren’t keen to repeat the experience.
They spent their morning yesterday learning how to avoid all things with spikes, stings and fangs that can be found in a Toowoomba garden.
They joined a group of other young explorers as part of Toowoomba Regional Council’s annual Bushcapades holiday program.
TRC bush care facilitator Kirsty Jenkinson said the program was as popular as ever 10 years on.
“There is just something about getting kids outdoors.
“We find that outdoor classrooms work really well and the kids’ faces light up when they get into the garden.”
Bushcapades activities will run each weekday until January 21.
From night exploration at Picnic Point to paper making and worm farming, the list of events is worth a look.
