A POST-mortem examination on a teenager who died from head injuries allegedly caused in a school brawl will be carried out on Tuesday.

Jai Morcom, 15, died at Gold Coast Hospital on Saturday morning after suffering head injuries allegedly during a fight at Mullumbimby High School, on the NSW north coast on Friday.

Police are awaiting autopsy results to determine how he died.

A NSW police spokesman said the post-mortem examination was being carried out in Queensland on Tuesday and it was unclear when the results would be known.

About 600 students, parents and teachers marched through the quiet streets of Mullumbimby to mourn the loss of Jai on Monday.

Students say a culture of violence and bullying has been allowed to fester at the school.
