AT least two and a half million Australians are expected to tune into the MasterChef Australia final - despite calls from some fans for a boycott.
TV expert Vincent O'Donnell, from RMIT said he believed audiences would lap up the all-girl finale between Julie Goodwin and Poh Ling Yeow on Sunday.
"I think it could make 2.5 million plus," Dr O'Donnell told AAP.
"The two finalists are a modern TV programmer-producer's dream - mid-30s, ambitious women in a field dominated professionally by men."
Some have predicted the ratings for the Network Ten cooking show could top three million.
SportingBet is offering $1.91 even odds on it going above or below 2.8 million viewers.
Ratings for the show has steadily grown from the 1.42 million watched its premiere on April 27 this year.
Every night this week, except one, more than two million viewers have tuned in.
Thursday night's program, in which Victorian beer merchant Christopher Badenoch was eliminated, attracted 2.36 million viewers to knock off this year's first State of Origin rugby league match as the most watched item of 2009.
On Sunday, MasterChef will be up against 60 Minutes on Nine, Dancing With The Stars in its first hour and US series Bones and Mission Impossible III in its third.
If it does crack the 2.5 million mark, it will beat last year's AFL grand final.
If it goes above three million, it will enter into the top 10 most watched items since ratings figures began.
The highest rating reality TV show, is the 2004 Australian Idol finale of 3.34 million viewers.
But threatening to spoil the party are fans upset over Badenoch's elimination, who have called for a boycott.
They say Goodwin should've been given the boot for failing to plate up her dish.
Disgruntled fans took to the program's official website, news sites, and social networking sites Twitter and Facebook to complain.
"What a crock. An absolute crock. I won't be watching that final. DVD night for me," wrote one viewer, echoing many.
By evening on Friday, there were 34 pages on a forum titled "boycott the finals".
A spokeswoman for Network Ten said they wouldn't be making any predictions about ratings.
