They are the champions

A ROCK anthem by Queen was the song of choice after the CASS Sport Aerobics team swept all before them at the recent State Championships held in Sydney.
“We got all of the parents and all of the kids together and we all did a big circle singing We Are The Champions, we just couldn't believe it,” team coach Cassie Scully said.
“Everyone was saying that we've taken on the city goers and we've done really well.”
Every competitor from the Coffs Harbour team walked away with a medal with eight of them being named as State champions.
“That was the ultimate,” Scully said. “We've got a lot of new people this year and they don't really know what to expect until they get to a competition and it was great for them to see the kids doing really well and everyone getting a medal was awesome.
“And eight State champions that's the best result we've had.”
Scully was one of the eight State champs when she took out the senior category but other winners of a gold medal were Stacey Robotham (junior category), Savannah Werstak (cadet category), Megan Arkoshy (cadet B category), Chelsea Pitt (extra mini category), the junior fitness team called Adrenalin, the cadet fitness team Shake It and the over 35s fitness team Tenacity.
Add to that two silver medals and three bronze and the CASS Sport Aerobics squad have had a weekend to remember.
Scully says being the first ones to train for the champs was the secret.
“We were so prepared,” she said.
“Usually I would wait until January to start choreographing but we started in November last year. So we just had those couple of extra months on every other club and I think that was the key to winning at this one.”
And there was plenty of hard work that went into the medals.
“The teams have to train a minimum of two sessions a week and their biggest goal is to synchronise and get everything in time that makes them look great and lots of fitness work makes them look 'wow' on stage,” the coach explained.
“The singles have to put a lot more effort in, it's really hard to be a single. “They have to have private sessions with me so I can just pick their routine apart and fix everything and they will train a minimum of three to four sessions a week and they do fitness work outside of that.”
Now all of them are preparing for the National Championships to be held in Melbourne in September.
