GET ready for school holiday fun as the Circus Royale rolls into town.

Boasting a cast of circus superstars from Australia and overseas, Circus Royale is real family entertainment at its best.

The acclaimed circus troupe features a death-defying high wire walker, Australia's only "man in the bottle", hand balancer extraordinaire, acrobats, fast-paced jugglers, aerial acts and a variety of animals.

Tickets for adults start at $25 each and children from $12 each.

Tickets for all performances are on sale online at www.circusroyale.com.au, daily from the on-site ticket office or you can purchase door sales one hour prior to each performance.

Show times over the weekend are Saturday 4th - 3pm & 7pm and Sunday 5th - 11am & 3pm.

Old-fashioned fun
The Jondaryan Woolshed also has plenty of school holiday activities to get the kids out of the house and away from the Xbox.

Their weekend program begins with the Woolshed’s guided tours, sheep shearing and working dog demonstrations, followed by old-style games including egg-and-spoon races, three-legged races and horse shoe throwing.

After a sausage sizzle for lunch, children can participate in a colouring-in competition before their damper-making lesson, and a chance to hand feed the farmyard animals.

Children will then collect their freshly baked damper to take home to their families.

The Woolshed is open from 10.30am to 3.00pm and entry is $8.

Put the fun in fundraiser

The Esk Picnic Races are a unique opportunity to dress up, eat up, have fun and raise money for sick kids all in one day.

For only $40 per person you’ll get a return coach ticket direct to the Esk Jockey Club, entry to the races, great entertainment, fashions on the field and old fashioned country hospitality.

All proceeds from tickets sold help make miracles happen for sick kids at the Mater Children’s Hospital.

Discounts apply for groups of five or more ($35 per person). BYO picnic or buy a BBQ lunch at the Esk Jockey Club. NO BYO alcohol, penalties apply.

Chartered coaches direct to the Esk Jockey Club will depart from 550 Wickham Terrace, Spring Hill at 9am sharp on Saturday 4th of July and will return to Brisbane City at approximately 6.30pm.

Learn from the best
Budding young actors and actresses have a unique opportunity to learn valuable new skills from the highly revered teachers at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) when their travelling education workshops come to the Empire Theatre this weekend.

The workshops will cover a range of essential acting skills including improvisation, voice and movement and tips on rehearsing and performing short scenes, as well as advice on how to discover your on-screen presence and experiment with scene work from film & TV scripts.

The program will run from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Places in the workshops cost $220 and you'll need to book ahead to secure a spot.

Be constructive

Also at the Empire Theatre this weekend is Tanja Liedtke's construct.

Candid, complex and clever, construct exposes the dark underside of building a dream. Through the dual construction of a house and a relationship, construct fixes a wicked gaze filled with humour on ambition and the curious connections between building a home, a relationship and a future.

construct
plays this Saturday at 8pm. Ticket prices are - adults $34, concessions $32, groups of 6 or more $32, child U-16yrs $19.
