A strong upper low will move across southern Queensland during the next few days. As it moves eastward, this system will intensify a surface trough across the southern coast.
A number of communities have been isolated as torrential rain caused flash-flooding across southeast Queensland.
According to commercial weather monitor Weatherzone, Beerburrum has recorded 302mm, its wettest 24-hour period in 17 years.
Redcliffe has recorded 151mm and 89mm has fallen on Brisbane City in the last 24 hours to 9am today, making it the wettest day in eight years.
Weatherzone meteorologist Matt Pearce said the focus of the heaviest rain is from Brisbane down to the Gold Coast and extends as far inland as Toowoomba.
"We are expecting falls over the next few days to exceed 500mm in some locations," Mr Pearce said.
Pullenvale, in Brisbane's western outskirts, has been isolated by floodwaters, and resident Glenn Davis said it's the worst he's seen in the ten years he's lived there.
"The place is like a giant swimming pool, no one can get in or out," Mr Davis said.
