The 2008 Dunny Race champions from the Maroochy Roos AFL team (l-r): James, Elliott, Matt and Brody with Bronwyn the passenger.
IN Gloucester, UK they race after cheeses.
In Finland, they race while carrying their wives. Amateurs.
On the Coast, we know the only way to race is pulling a dunny behind you.
It's an easy cliché but competitors in the annual dunny race held at Aussie World and the Ettamogah Pub really are flush with excitement as Australia Day approaches.
The Daily has a team, along with Bluescrew from Mudjimba, Caloundra Aussie Rules, Alsco Linen, Specialised Cleaning Products and Global Food and Wine from Kunda Park
Uppercuts Wholesale Meats are back for a second year and Maroochy North Shore Football Club will be fielding a team with the hopes of retaining their trophy from last year.
The event, which has been running for 18 years, has become an intrinsic part of Australia Day celebrations and Aussie World general manager David Thompson said that was because of the family focus.
“It is certainly an unusual drawcard. Every year we get people flocking to watch it, it's a fun event and you don't see it anywhere else,” he said.
The Australia Day action begins at 10am with the dunny race heats from 10.20am and finals at noon.
