The small sedan in which a 53-year-old Sydney woman died south ofWardell early yesterday morning following a collision with a B-double.

THE Pacific Highway took another life on Sunday morning at approximately 11am, two kilometres south of the bridge at Wardell.

A 53-year-old female driver from Sydney travelling north was killed instantly when her small sedan rolled after colliding with a south-bound B-double truck.

The truck driver was unharmed.

The woman’s labradoodle dog survived the accident.

The Pacific Highway was closed in both directions after the crash.

Ballina MP Don Page said the woman would still be alive if there had been dual carriageway on that section of the highway.

“This is yet another accident on a single-lane section of the highway,” Mr Page said.

Mr Page called for Federal and State Governments to provide money to upgrade the highway.
Only 40 per cent of the Pacific Highway has dual carriageway.

Mr Page said the $10 billion spent by the Federal Government in payments to families and pensioners to stimulate the economy would have been better spent fixing the highway.

“That would have been enough for dual carriageways from Sydney to Tweed Heads,” Mr Page said.
“The Government should be investing in infrastructure to save lives.”

Ballina Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred on a sweeping bend in sunny conditions.

A second car rolled on the Pacific Highway near the Byron Bay interchange on Sunday at 3pm.
The driver was not trapped.

 The accident was attended by ambulance officers.
