THE sounds of the festive season arrived in the Garden City yesterday with the annual Toowoomba Hospice Christmas Carols.

However, cheery Hospice Chairman Graham Barron told the large crowd which filled the grounds of the O'Quinn Street palliative care facility that he would not be lending his voice to the carols.

“I might put you off,” Mr Barron joked.

Now in its fifth year, the Hospice Christmas Carols herald the festive season and act as a thankyou to the staff and supporters of the hospice.

“It gets bigger and better every year,” Mr Barron said, while listening to the Toowoomba Municipal Band playing a range of Christmas carols.

“And the weather today is just beautiful.”

While not a fundraiser as such, the event still offers for sale craft and gifts and raffles.

But the highlight for many was the special pre-Christmas Eve appearance of Santa Claus.
