SOUTH Sydney Rabbitohs arrive in Coffs Harbour today for their first training week at Novotel Pacific Bay Resort.

The squad will arrive at Coffs Harbour Regional Airport at 8am and Mayor Keith Rhoades has urged fans and supporters to get out and greet them.

“Although the squad is here to use the training facilities at Camp Rabbitoh, the players, coaches and officials are spending an equal amount of time meeting local fans, training young players in school sessions and meeting the community,” he said.

“The club has always made clear they want to become a part of this community, a commitment they've already demonstrated and I know they will get a very warm welcome locally.”

As well as training, the Rabbitohs have a packed week of activities that includes a civic welcome with Koori smoking ceremony, a series of school training camps, autograph signing sessions and swimming with the dolphins at the Pet Porpoise Pool.

“We're really looking forward to our first training camp and are keen to be involved with the people of Coffs Harbour,” Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson said.

“We'll be using our two pre-season camps to prepare ourselves for the 2009 season.”

The public is invited to meet the team on Wednesday between 7.30-10am at a public training session at Camp Rabbitoh in the Novotel Pacific Bay Resort.

The squad will head to City Square on Thursday for a meet and greet with fans at 6pm, where the mayor will extend a civic welcome and the players will help turn on the lights of the new civic Christmas tree.

Tickets will go on sale shortly for the NRL pre-season trial between Souths and Penrith Panthers at BCU International Stadium on Saturday, February 14.
