The race is on and Australia Zoo is in front.

The Coast landmark is the top attraction in Queensland according to the RACQ 150 must-do list.

Public voting will continue online until January 31 with the winner set to be announced on February 28.

The campaign has been timed to coincide with Queensland’s 150th birthday celebrations.

One hundred and fifty places and activities have been chosen for the shortlist, including 13 from the Sunshine Coast.

Brunch on Hastings Street, the Glasshouse Mountains, the Ginger Factory, the Eumundi Markets and the Woodford Folk Festival are among the local attractions to make the cut.

Tourism Sunshine Coast acting CEO Ren van Tulder said he thought the region was well represented and tourism operators should benefit as a result.

He predicted more Queenslanders would soon be holidaying at home as a result of the economic slowdown.

“The Queensland drive market offers significant growth potential for the Sunshine Coast, especially in the current environment,” Mr van Tulder said.

“With the fall of the Australian dollar and the uncertainty of consumer confidence, a ‘holiday at home’ concept is extremely appealing to many Queensland families.”
