RACE toughness may be the only thing lacking from Fleet 'N' Fast when it races in today's Magic Millions Two-Year-Old Plate (100m) at Clifford Park.

The Col Williamson-trained galloper will make his debut in today's event, which will virtually assure the winner a start in next year's Magic Millions event at the Gold Coast.

Fleet 'N' Fast looked set to start September's Fitton Insurance Hopeful Plate as favourite, before pulling a leg muscle and being ruled out.

He warmed up for today's race with a Clifford Park trial win on Tuesday, but Williamson believes race hardness may be the only thing holding Fleet 'N' Fast back.

“He shaped up as favourite for the Fitton, but he pulled a leg muscle in his back leg and he's too good a horse to risk,” Williamson said.

“He's got plenty of ability and I'm tickled pink with him, but it will just be a matter of whether he's fit enough.

“Whether he's hard enough is my biggest worry, because he's up against horses that have been racing and he's giving up that race experience.

“The week of rain we had last week was a setback because we couldn't do much with him.”

Williamson believes there are some “smart horses” among today's starters and singled out the Liam Birchley-trained Fairchild as the horse to beat.

“It's a good little field and when you're racing for that sort of prize money you always expect some smart ones,” he said.

“That horse of Liam Birchley's will be hard to beat.”

Today's eight-race card at Clifford Park begins at 12.30.

"He's got plenty of ability and I'm tickled pink with him, but it will just be a matter of whether he's fit enough," Col Williamson said.
