HIS beauty routine simply involves brushing his teeth each day.

But a lack of fake tan and body waxing did not stop Tim Boulenger from winning the national final of Manhunt Australia in Darwin last week.

The 23-year-old from Sippy Downs beat a line-up of handsome hunks to secure himself a trip to Korea for the Manhunt International World Final.

He said the experience in Darwin reminded him of the Ben Stiller movie Zoolander.

Tim Boulenger“It was a bit funny to see, it was a different world,” he said. “I remember one day we went to the shops and I said, 'hey guys let's look at the surf shop', but they all wanted to book in for fake tans. But they were really cool guys, they just cared about how they looked.”

Tim said the best part of the experience was making new friends.

“We were more like a big team trying to help each other ... I didn't feel like we were competing at all,” he said.

The University of the Sunshine Coast sports science student, who described the gym as a “torture room”, said he stayed in shape by doing activities that he enjoyed, such as surfing and spear fishing.

Tim recently lost his close friend, Jason Palmer, in a spear fishing accident and said he dedicated his win in the national final to him.

Tim said he had planned to pull out of the competition to study for an exam, but Jason's death on November 3 inspired him to compete.

“I told myself to take every opportunity that you can,” he said.
