He's dapper: Cooroy father Werner Uhlich displays photos of his son, Rhys, who won the Make Me a Supermodel series on Thursday night.
KEEP your eyes open for a familiar face in the surf at Noosa North Shore in the future because Make Me A Supermodel winner Rhys Uhlich loves nothing more than catching a few waves in the area when he comes up to visit his dad.
Rhys, who won the title in Thursday night's series final, visits his dad, Werner, in Cooroy a couple of times a year and loves using the opportunity to unwind.
“He loves surfing. With surfing he just de-stresses,” Werner said.
He said he was incredibly proud of his son's achievements on the show.
“It was overwhelming (when he won),” he said.
“You only have this once in your lifetime and you are happy that one of your children is achieving like that.”
Rhys beat more than 30,000 other supermodel hopefuls to take out the title, securing a contract with renowned model management company Chadwicks.
He will fly to New York to meet his US agency and will also feature in a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine. Rhys' life will change permanently with his supermodel title and Werner said he was amazed at how well his son coped with the pressures when he flew down to be part of the show last week.
“I went to Melbourne for the party on Friday and there were photo shoots happening every 15 minutes and people wanting to talk to him,” Werner said.
“That was something I have never seen before, but he handled it really well.”
Even though the competition has changed his life, Werner is confident it won't change Rhys as a person.
“Everyone likes him. He always has lots of friends. He is lovely in that regard,” Werner said.
In the meantime, Werner is enjoying basking in the glory of Rhys' win.
“It has been an amazing journey for every one of us. My nose is getting higher and higher,” he said.
