TRIPLETS Meghan, Kevin and Bridget McVeigh live in a very noisy household.

The three Downlands College students are aspiring actors and music theatre performers and each has been awarded an Empire Theatres Foundation Bursary which was presented yesterday.

Meghan won a bursary to the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts for a music theatre short course, Kevin is going to Sydney for a National Institute of Dramatic Arts short course and Bridget is staying in Toowoomba for a NIDA Touring Program in acting techniques.

The trio said it wasn't just them who were interested in performing arts.

They have a younger sister who sings and dances, their mother is a drama teacher and their father also sings.

The siblings were not alone in making winning bursaries a family event.

Violin playing brothers Johnny van Gend and Robert van Gend won the same bursary to attend the McGregor Summer School Arts Retreat for Instrumental Music.

“It's great to play in an orchestra and play with other musicians. It's the musical highlight of the year,” Robert said.

Johnny at 11 was the youngest recipient of the bursaries.

Bursaries were also awarded for local performers to attend short courses at the Victorian College of the Arts and Sydney Dance Company.
