THE latest Toowoomba Repertory Theatre Society play Wedding of the Year is held together with perfectly timed gags, great story telling and semi-slapstick moments.
Wedding of the Year is the second major play Mark Phythian has directed since early last year when he directed Barefoot in the Park written by Neil Simon.
“They're both comedies. The last one was a romantic comedy. Wedding of the Year is a straight comedy and not a farce where you have doors opening and closing and that type of thing,” he said.
Mr Phythian said the latest play had a wide appeal.
“Wedding of the Year is a comedy for all ages. Everyone will understand the principles behind it,” he said.
MrPhythian said a colourful mix of characters make the play interesting. There's a frumpy and bespectacled girl and a mayhem-causing family.
“The young girl doesn't want to be married off, but the uncle wants her to get married and enters her in a bride-of-the-year competition.”
Mr Phythian has acted in a number of plays for the Toowoomba Repertory Theatre.
“I think I probably prefer acting, but I do get a lot out of directing.
“It's good to be able to pass on some skills to lesser-experienced actors in the company,” he said.
