AN impressive line-up of international kite-flying talent is coming to Coolum for this year's kite festival, including world multiple kite-flying champion Ray Bethell.

Bethell, from Canada, is well into his 80s but is still flying kites like a teenager and has many international kite flying awards under his belt.

Renowned kite artist Ron Gibian from the US will display his spectacular kite sculptures, while New Zealand's Craig Hanson will return to the Coolum festival to showcase some of the biggest kites in the world.

The kite master in residence at China's premier kite museum, Qian Jian Guo, and his artist wife, Lang Feng Liang, will present demonstrations on traditional Chinese kite-making and artwork leading up to, and during, the festival.

Other international artists to appear at the kite festival include New Zealand's Carlos Van Camp – who will be involved in a spectacular, night-time electrical kite stunt –and Rob Bloor from the UK, who is a “fire stand-up and renegade comedian”.

The festival will also feature many outstanding Australian artists who are involved in the arts and cultural component of the event.

Coolum Kite Festival chairman Noel Mooney said he was excited to present some of the best kite flyers, artists and entertainers from around the world.

“It's great to have such a high calibre of international guests participating in this year's event,” Mr Mooney said.

“The attention that the event has received in the international kite flying arena is a true testament to the quality of the festival and how far it has come in recent years.”

The festival will be held on October 11 and 12.
