Coast beauty revs up for Miss Indy
- 29th September 2008
Sunshine Coast's Sasha Maher.
WHEN Sasha Maher moved to the Sunshine Coast, she was amazed by the number of beautiful girls.
Which is why she's so stoked to be representing the region in the Miss Indy competition.
The 23-year-old is one of two finalists from the Coast who will battle it out with 38 other beauties from across the country to be crowned the face of the Gold Coast Indy carnival.
In only her second beauty contest, the client-service coordinator and part-time hospitality worker took out the Noosa heats to book her place in the finals.
"I'm super proud to be representing the Sunshine Coast," she said. "When I moved here a year ago I didn't realise how many beautiful girls there are.
"I think it's all to do with the lifestyle.
"The food is really good and people are getting outdoors and doing things.
"Everyone is just really fit and really healthy."
Sasha had only one beauty contest under her belt when she entered the Miss Indy competition, having been a finalist in the Miss Bondi competition.
While unsure how she would fare in the Miss Indy comp, she was just looking to do her best.
"I think over 2500 girls enter the competition, and that's from all across Australia," she said.
"I'm just looking forward to the contest and making new friends and meeting new people."
Sasha's experience in beauty contests might be limited, but she said it wasn't all catfights and backstabbing like television might have you believe.
"Everyone so far has been really friendly," she said.
"I get along with everybody. I think you need to be supportive of each other; you're getting up in front of so many people."
Sasha joins Rachael Gorry, who took out the Caloundra heats, as the Sunshine Coast's representative in the competition.
