Children contribute to a very special anthology
- 24th September 2008
SOME of Toowoomba's tiniest artists and budding writers were presented with awards by Toowoomba Regional Council mayor Peter Taylor during Child Protection Week.
The statuesque mayor was forced to kneel as he presented prizes for outstanding art work and writing to the children aged between seven and nine years.
Over 500 students from 11 schools entered the competition with the winners set to feature in a calendar and an anthology titled A Child's View.
Councillor Taylor admitted to still being a 'stick-figure' artist but said he was very impressed with the quality of the art work.
The judges of the writing, Chronicle reporter Merryl Miller and Zacharey Jane, commended the quality of the collection and urged everyone to “to read every single one of them”.
Copies of the books will be donated to schools and libraries while calendars will be distributed by the hospitals to the parents of every baby born during the coming year.
Some of the featured artworks are on display at the Bank of Queensland, Park House Cafe, the Kath Dickson Centre and Grand Central Shopping Centre.
