BUDERIM surfer Dimity Stoyle's competitive year continues to go from strength to strength after she posted her best Pro Junior series result at Port Stephens yesterday.
In freezing, four to six-foot conditions, 17-year-old Stoyle finished in third place, the best result for any Coast surfer at the event.
Her semi-final was an uphill battle from the start, with opponent Tyler Wright snaring a 9.0 for her first wave.
That was by far the best wave of the heat, with Stoyle only able to find a combined 5.50, while Wright could only add another 1.50 to her nine, although it was enough to secure the start in the final.
While the third place will secure Stoyle valuable seeding points towards next year's series, she said she had been expecting a better performance in the semi- final.
"It was kind of a disappointing semi-final for me as I spent a lot of time waiting for a decent wave and none came through: really frustrating," Stoyle said.
"Still, I'm pleased to make the semis for sure.
"(With this) result and the final two events in Sydney in two weeks and then at Bells Beach after that I'll hopefully set up a great seeding for next year's Pro Junior season."
New Zealand's Paige Hareb defeated Wright in the girls' final, while Tahiti's Tamaroa McComb won the boys' event, beating Queensland's Lincoln Taylor by less than a point in their final.
Meanwhile, at the WQS O'Neill Pantin Classic in Spain, Leigh Sedley (Mountain Creek) and Ryan Campbell (Noosa) have been eliminated.
Sedley fared best, surfing through to the man-on-man round of 16, while Campbell fell in the round of 24.
