SUNSHINE Coast firefighters were kept busy yesterday afternoon after two blazes sparked a series of 000 calls.
Officers from the Maroochydore station extinguished a fire that broke out at 2.45pm in an industrial storage area at Buderim's Power Road.
Station officer Conrad Ware said a small fire started in a patch of grass before spreading to a shipping container and a roll of nearby cable.
Two firefighters wore breathing apparatus to avoid being overcome by potentially toxic fumes.
Mr Ware said a large plume of coloured smoke could be seen from the Sunshine Motorway. This had prompted many people to report the fire.
Near Lady Musgrave Drive at Mountain Creek, a 160sq m grassed area caught fire about 3.30pm. The blaze was quickly extinguished.
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts warned on August 1 that Queensland's 2008 bushfire season could be the worst in 15 years.
Also yesterday, at 3pm Nambour firefighters extinguished a small blaze under a bridge on Currie Street, near Coles; firefighters attended a car fire at Black Mountain about 11am and police went to a skate bowl in Noosa after a small fire was lit there just before 4.45pm.
Two adults with neck pain and a child with back pain were taken to Caloundra Hospital after two cars crashed on Steve Irwin Way at Beerburrum about 11am.
