Great day out for all at the Coffs races
- 8th August 2008
VIP guest Mario Fenech may have had a rough landing when his skydive ended on top of the Carlton Draught balloon, but most punters floated through Cup Day 2008, even if their favourites failed to fire.
Coffs Harbour MP Andrew Fraser was among those who said he had lost all his money but was still having a good day.
A slight drop in numbers in spite of picture perfect weather was attributed to the ban on 13-17 year olds introduced for this meeting.
For the grown-ups, it was all about dressing up, kicking back and getting together with friends and enjoying a few or more drinks.
Some racegoers, like Natalie Kozik, were partying on behalf of the rest of their family who had to work – and on behalf of her brother, who does not turn 18 until September.
Five mates dressed alike in black and white gangster outfits said punting and drinking were high on the agenda and for Sawtell boys Dylan, Jay, Mitch and Jake, alias '2452' it was about everyone getting back together in their home town for the occasion.
For really serious fashion followers, there was almost as much money to be made on the catwalk as on the track, leading to fierce competion.
