TOOWOOMBA shot putter Justin Anlezark sent down a clear message that he was ready for something big in Beijing by unleashing his biggest throw in four years at the weekend.
Competing at the Gold Coast on Saturday, Anlezark threw 20.53 metres, 23 centimetres beyond the Olympic A Qualifying mark.
It was his biggest throw since capturing the Australian title in 2004 with a throw of 20.8 metres.
Anlezark, who leaves for Hong Kong on Tuesday for a pre-Games camp tomorrow, said Saturday's performance was further confirmation that he was heading in the right direction for the Olympics.
“I'm obviously confident in what I'm doing at the moment and to throw out something like that, which is my biggest throw in four years, just emphasises that things are going well,” Anlezark said.
“My warm-up wasn't crash hot, but Pitty (coach Graham Pitt) and I knew that if I hit one, it would go.”
The meet proved a strong preparation for Anlezark, who was stuck in traffic prior to competing.
“It was good for me because the day of competition at the Olympics is crazy,” Anlezark said.
“Getting up early and travelling and then getting stuck in traffic made it a pretty disruptive day, so to do that and still get a good throw out was perfect.”
Anlezark will compete in an international meet next week, before competing in Beijing on August 15.
