NOTHING gets a carnivore drooling faster than the smell and sound of bacon frying — and that aroma makes bacon from Schultes Meat Tavern at Plainland the best in Australia.
Owners Paul and Peter Schulte are over the moon that their bacon — made from 100 per cent Australian pork — was named Australia’s best at the very first Australian PorkMark Bacon Awards for Excellence, announced in Canberra on Monday night.
Schultes produces and sells one tonne of bacon every week, still making it according to the traditional recipe their father Peter Schulte used when he established the business in 1953.
Its bacon won the national competition ahead of 44 other competitors and 61 other bacon lines, with the judges making particular mention of that salty, mouth-watering aroma in their remarks.
