New adult club 'in perfect place'

PARIS Satine has a word of advice for her detractors: “If you have a problem with the club I’m building, then the solution is simple – don’t come”.

Last year Ms Satine was granted approval to build an adult club at Kunda Park, next to her licensed brothel, Scarlet Harem.

All members of the Sunshine Coast council bar one, Ted Hungerford, voted in favour of the club, despite 96 public submissions against the proposal.

Mr Hungerford said a “combination of testosterone, visual stimulation and alcohol are a potentially explosive mix”.

However, other councillors disagreed, stating it was not a moral decision but a planning one.

Construction has now begun on the club, prompting a new wave of community backlash.

Some sectors of the community say the club could act as a solicitation point for the eight-year-old brothel.

An anonymous source said it was an example of the council “condoning the solicitation of prostitution by the business next door owned by the same owner” and turning Kunda Park into “the seedy side of town”.

However, Ms Satine refuted the claims and said she “would be stupid to put her brothel license at risk”.

“I have nothing to hide. Everything about my businesses is above board,” she said. “I’m a business woman and building this club is a business decision.

“It’s going to be something new and exciting, the likes of which the Coast has never seen before.”

Ms Satine said she decided to build the club at Kunda Park to keep it away from the Mooloolaba and Maroochydore tourist strips, which are residential areas and are also frequented by families.

She said the venue would also provide a lot of employment during its construction and operation.

“Nobody wants a night club next door to their home and Kunda Park, being an industrial area, is the perfect location,” she said.

“The club is a completely separate business to Scarlet Harem. All I’m interested in is providing jobs and running a successful business.

“The people that will come are consenting adults who want to be there – we can’t force people to come.

“If it’s not your cup of tea, stay at home.”

The problem for some people who protest about these sorts of things being available is that they know nothing about them.An adult club is just that . Only adults allowed If there is a fee for membership it becomes a private club.So what if they show sexy movies, or have scantily clad staff. So what if they go from the club to visit the brothel next door. It really is no one's business what consenting adults get up to.An open mind is a wonderful thing to have. I would rather a frustrated male go to a brothel than attack a defenceless woman walking down a street. In fact I do think that by now that we should have grown up enough to accept that these sorts of things are always going to be around, after all they have been around a darn long time now.

I wonder how many of the detractors accept taxpayer funded Government benefits via parenting payments etc?
Ms. Satine is a tax paying, a presumably high tax paying, business owner and resident. Good on her as far as I'm concerned. Some of us have to work to fund the huge social security bill and I have no problem with it. And I also assume she's employing a lot of other tax payers that help fill the Government coffers.

"despite 96 submissions" out of how many people living on the coast?

What kind of deviant kicks do the "moral majority" of religious windbags get from telling people what to do? There's some kind of dominant / submissive undertone running through their lives.

Its the year 2010 people not 1950! Get over it, its in an industrial area, its not near residential homes or schools, its legal, provides jobs, she pays her taxes, it keeps it off the street - I agree with Just Thinking - good on Ms Satine. Like she said if you don't like it don't go there - simple!

Can we find out what facts Ted Hungerford bases his decision making on? It is a concern if he is making decisions on imaginary demons or over bearing religious convictions. Would just like to know.

I agree that the perfect place for club of debauchery is next door to a brothel. A perfect place for police patrol car is in the block next door as there will be a need to reduce the impact of the collateral damage caused by both of these activities on the community. Road hoons, assault, drunken disorderly etc are all the types of activities already reported by the Queensland Police as behaviors that occur around nightclubs.

so some people have a problem with a club where women may perform onstage in different stages of undress? How about these people turn their energy towards closing down the other clubs on the coast where women as young as 15 dance in different stages of undress - oh, sorry, they are patrons in the night clubs, so I guess that's alright.

To each their own. If you don't like it then stay home. I for one am going to drop in my resume. I wonder if they need bartenders.

something new and exciting, the likes of which the coast has never seen ? yeah thats what they said bout Secret's nightclub when it opened late 80's early 90's and look what happened there !

So this would be more acceptable in say down town mooloolaba, and rather than it being an adult club where pay may go next door for sex, they stay in the club and pick up the patrons for sex, however they then don;t have to pay for it, or perhaps just stalk the person they saw at the club and rape them????

I think it is the perfect place for the club, and I also think brothels are a necessity for society where people can go and get there needs seen to in a professional manner.

Council correctly made a planning decision for a legal business. If we started making moral decisions then how many other businesses would come under the spotlight?
I might go just to exercise my democratic right to go there, right before my wife drags me back out and reminds me democracy extends so far.
All the best Ms Satine for the new business

Basically - heard it all before. They come and go. So what.

Overall - "people's" limited thinking and lack of imagination just amazes me.

Personally - the last thing that'd get me hot would be to have sex with the woman that the other 30 guys in the room have just had sex with. I get a raging "soft-on" just thinking about it.

But that's just me. Whatever turns you on.

Cant see the new adult club being any different than most of the night clubs in Mooloolaba with scantily clad women parading around (and they are the patrons!!) At least its out of the way.....no ones forcing you to go, if you dont like then stay away, its as simple as that.
Good on Ms Satine!

I eagerly await the day that all the wowsers get off their high horses! Moral outrage is very unbecoming and its high time we stop using sexuality synonymously with deviate behaviour. It's as natural as eating when you're hungry. All the best Paris!

Once again the SCD shows that it is an advertising medium. I wonder if the SCD has any financial interests in Ms Satine's "Adult Club". With the amount of exposure that the SCD is giving Ms Satine makes you ask the question.

I can see it now... on the other side will be Paris' 24 hrTyre service.. ;)

instead of reading old magazines and drinking workshop coffee while getting a wheel alignment and new tyres..

you can slip next door to get your pipes cleaned out and a quick polish....

Darling.. just popping down to kunda park to get the tyres checked....
it's 10pm Hun, won't it be closed??..

oh!, this new place is a 24 hr place for getting serviced after hours....

oh ok then. I won't wait up....

Alcohol, men, tetestrone and a Brothel next door. How did this women get aproval from the Prostitutes Licencing Authority? You cant tell me that patrons of the "Adults Club" after looking at eye candy for a few hours and a few hours or more worth of alcohol are going to be refused entry to the Brothel that happens to be next door and happens to be owned by the same person. Honestly. Shame on the council and more shame on the PLA for not fighting harder if at all against this.
