Mother reiterates helmets vital
9th February 2010
Amanda Jones wants to reiterate the importance of wearing helmets while cycling after her son CJ Wheatley died without one in an accident.
SEEING cyclists without helmets brings tears to Amanda Jones’ eyes since her son Christopher John Wheatley died without one in a cycling accident.
Mrs Jones said "CJ" would not have been saved by a helmet but the fact his life was taken so quickly should be a reminder to all cyclists.
Former Toowoomba resident Mr Wheatley was riding a bike on Duet Drive at the Gold Coast when he and a station wagon collided at the intersection of Sunshine Boulevard at 4.15pm on Boxing Day last year.
He died in from his injuries, including massive bleeding of the brain, in the Gold Coast Hospital at 1.43pm on New Year’s Day, aged 24.
