GOT a bit of a bulge left over from Christmas?

A new year means new resolutions and that means Toowoomba residents are flocking to the gym to get fit.

One Life Health and Fitness sales manager Emily Boyce said now that the ham and plum pudding leftovers have disappeared from the fridge, it was the time join a gym.

“We certainly have seen an increase in membership after Christmas with 20 people joining since the start of the month,” Miss Boyce said.

“Plenty of people want to get fit as part of a new year’s resolution and we can help them with personal training, nutrition advice and tailor a program to achieve those goals.”

The gym has a special at the moment enabling people to join with a mate and save $298.

“Another reason people are keen to join is for our Zumba Latin-based dance class that is all the craze at the moment,” Miss Boyce said.

Other gyms have also experienced a rush since the new year. Fernwood Women’s Health Club has seen an increase in membership with new women joining as well as past members wanting to start the year with improved health. Owner Siobhan Scott said there were no joining fees at the moment and new members could join the Foxy Challenge.

“It is a three-month fitness well-being program to get you to reach your goal,” she said.

“Some people will lose 10 to 20kg and it will be starting in a few weeks.”
