IN a surprise announcement, WIN Television's Queensland General Manager Geoff Massey has quit the network to join one of Rockhampton's top advertising agency.

SMR Advertising said today that Massey would leave WIN in December and begin working for the SMR team on January 11 next year.

Commenting on the decision, Massey said: “My position with WIN Television has allowed me to gain a first-hand perspective on the local agency scene in Queensland and SMR is ideally placed for future expansion. There are number of strong forward thinking operations in regional Australia but SMR is the stand out, particularly here in Central Queensland”.

Massey will take almost 25 years experience to SMR, mainly in the areas of advertising campaign management and television production.

Before moving to Central Queensland in 2007, Massey was General Manager WIN NBN Sales in Brisbane.

Before that he worked with the Seven and Nine Networks in Sydney and Melbourne and had substantial experience in press, radio and on line media integration.

SMR agency principle Paul Sweeney said recruiting Mr Massey was a coup for his business.

"Geoff will bring a wealth of knowledge to all aspects of our business and work with myself and our team to position SMR as the pre-eminent service provider to our clients and media partners across the state. We have number of very exciting projects unfolding in 2010 and Geoff is precisely the person we need to take these projects forward”.

Mr Sweeney said he would make more exciting announcements in the New Year.
