THE smell of sunscreen, sizzling steak and saltwater mingled together seductively as the sun shone down for a Sunshine Coast scorcher yesterday.

And there are more hot days ahead.

Thousands flocked to Mooloolaba Beach to soak up the unseasonable warmth, with the mercury hitting a comfortable 28 degrees - seven degrees above the August average.

Two of those out enjoying the weather were Brisbane girls Lisa Wheeler and Kassi Campbell.

It was the first time since April the girls had donned their bikinis.

“We woke up and decided to head to the beach. The weather is amazing,” Lisa said.

“During the summer we head to the beach most weekends and it's great the hot weather seems to have come early.”

Today the temperature is set to jump up a notch and hit 31 degrees, with conditions dry. Tomorrow will be another scorcher, with a high of 30 degrees expected.

Conditions should ease by Wednesday, with a cooler 27 degrees predicted.

A spokeswoman from the Bureau of Meteorology said the warm conditions had been caused by hot winds blowing from the west.

“The wind will continue to pick up until Tuesday and will die down on Wednesday,” she said.

“However, conditions won't cool and the Sunshine Coast can expect warmer than average temperatures for the rest of August.”
