A YOUNG woman has survived a five-storey plunge from the balcony of an Alexandra Headland resort, miraculously suffering only minor injuries.

Witnesses have told police they saw the 24-year-old do a backflip from a unit balcony at the Oaks Seaforth Resort on Alexandra Parade and then plummet more than 15 metres.

The woman was reportedly climbing down from a balcony on the sixth floor to a balcony on the fifth floor when she fell, or jumped, at about 9.40pm Saturday.

Incredibly, she suffered only cuts, a minor head wound and chipped teeth and was conscious as ambulance officers treated her at the scene.

The woman spent the night in Nambour Hospital and family members were by her side yesterday morning.

It was unclear whether the woman was at a party at the resort when the incident happened.

It was also not known if she was staying at the resort or visiting guests.

However, it was believed she was one of a group of promotional models who had been working at a Mooloolaba nightclub earlier in the night.

Senior Sergeant Scott Nolan said the woman was lucky to have survived the fall.

“It's not only inappropriate, it's dangerous and can result in death,” Snr Sgt Nolan said of the woman's actions.

“You sometimes have to question the thought processes of persons regarding their behaviour when they're intoxicated or affected by a substance.”

It was not clear yesterday whether the woman was drunk or had taken drugs prior to the incident.

Oaks Resorts and Hotels operations manager Mike Anderson said there was no way the woman could have fallen from the balcony if she had been doing the right thing.

“We don't want any guests having an accident but if someone is going to go outside the boundaries of what is the normal entertainment area and start doing silly things ... but we're really pleased to hear she's recovering well,” Mr Anderson said.

He also could not confirm whether the woman was at a party in the building but stressed the resort was not “party central”.

“We have residents who live there as well, we don't encourage any sort of partying at any of our properties.”

No charges have been laid over the incident which police said was not being treated as a criminal matter.
