IN a bid to lure popular talk back radio hosts Hamish and Andy to Gympie, Tara Jeffcoat rang the Hamish and Andy show on Thursday telling them of her partner's cause to get the city's KFC sign spinning again.

Little did she know she would start a national, tongue-in-cheek campaign to get the bucket spinning.

Her partner Craig Brown started a Facebook campaign titled 'Spin the KFC bucket again' which has spiked the interest of the comedic duo.

Readers may remember back to a time when all KFC signs had a spinning bucket and most will notice that they no longer rotate.

KFC has told Hamish and Andy that consumer research showed people didn't want the bucket to spin, but nationally people have spoken out wanting to get the bucket moving after the issue was featured on the national radio show.

So far there are 87 members of the Facebook page and a mass of correspondence has flooded into Hamish and Andy.

Hamish said on yesterday's show he hoped to start a domino affect to get the buckets to spin, starting with Gympie's KFC sign.

One listener called in to the show on Thursday saying he would refuse to buy chicken from a KFC that didn't have a spinning sign and others suggested boycotting the restaurant until the sign spun again.

When speaking to The Gympie Times yesterday, Hamish and Andy didn't rule out coming to Gympie. They also wanted to organise a national spin day. “The oversize bucket refuses to spin”- let the bucket spin again,” they said.

Thanks Hamish and Andy for bringing awareness to the KFC spinning bucket. But the bucket that doesn't spin isn't KFC's only problem: Horrible conditions in farms and the unfair mistreatment of chickens are just some of the things that go on behind the scenes. It's great that so many people are supporting a cause, but unless you're aware of the methods used to kill your food you might want to reconsider what you're supporting.
