Boy killed in pushbike accident

A NINE-YEAR-OLD has died after being thrown from his bike during the NSW school holidays.
Two boys were riding their bikes along Midshipman Circuit at Corlette, north of Newcastle, about 3.30pm (AEST) on Tuesday when their handlebars clipped, police said.
Both children were thrown from their bikes, with the nine-year-old suffering serious internal injuries as his abdomen hit the handlebars during the fall.
His eight-year-old companion landed heavily on the grass nature strip beside the road but escaped serious injury.
A nearby resident alerted emergency services and the older boy was taken to Tomaree Community Hospital in Nelson Bay before being flown to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital, where he died.
Police from the Newcastle crash investigation unit are investigating the accident.
"The boy's bike and helmet have been seized as evidence," police said in a statement.
"A report will be prepared by police for the information of the NSW coroner."
