Hero's gift will ensure he's not forgotten
Craig Mctear 4th July 2009
ONLY four weeks out from this year's Anzac Day commemorations, Private David Smith gave a special gift to Coffs Harbour's RSL sub-branch.
It was the uniform he wore with pride on
his Afghanistan tour of duty and it now takes
pride of place in the foyer of the Coffs Ex-Services Club.
“We accepted it gratefully,” sub-branch president Bob Payne said this week.
“He was a really nice, unassuming guy to talk to.
“This guy is our hero and we want to make sure he's well remembered, too.”
The Ex-Services Club will host a get-together in its entertainment lounge after David's funeral on Tuesday for family and friends to celebrate the life he had and the love he gave.
“We want to express our thanks and gratitude to the community of Coffs Harbour, especially the Coffs Ex-Services Club, for their support,” David's mum Rhonda said.
