Kleenmaid customers special? 'No way'
15th April 2009
KLEENMAID'S administrator will not guarantee that customers who have paid a deposit or the full amount for kitchen and laundry appliances can get their goods or a refund.
The Sunshine Coast whitegoods manufacturer went into voluntary administration last week in the wake of plummeting sales.
John Greig, a partner in Kleenmaid administrator Deloitte, said yesterday that it would be improper to give affected customers favourable treatment.
He said trade creditors, suppliers and landlords were also among unsecured creditors seeking a share of the $73 million owed to creditors.
Mr Greig said a probe of the company's position would take more time.
Customers who had placed deposits or paid for goods were owed about $27 million, secured creditors were owed $27 million, trade creditors and suppliers about $16 million and landlords more than $2 million.
“There's a lot of customers who have been affected,” he said.
