THE underworld has struck down the city's Sausage King.

The icon of snag supremacy is being held hostage by the trio who stole it from the roof of Mark Nolan's Gray's Modern Meat Mart yesterday morning.

Mr Nolan is convinced their true target is the secret sausage recipes guarded by the two-metre, fibreglass fellow.

“They might have him on a spit and be torturing him,” Mr Nolan winced.

“Someone, maybe a butcher from Western Australia, is trying to find out our prize-winning combinations.”

Mr Nolan is offering 10 kilograms of sausages for information leading to the arrest of the thieves who climbed onto the roof and spent 30 minutes unscrewing the chap before carrying him into a getaway car.

He is convinced the flag-adorned royal, which he branded “Toowoomba's only icon”, would not have said cheerio willingly.

And he hopes his reward offer will put a snag in the thieves' plans.

The crime has been reported to Toowoomba Police, who will only be too willing to grill suspects.
