Ex-Qld minister charged with corruption

FORMER Queensland minister Gordon Nuttall will stand trial on charges of corruption.
During a mention of the matter in the Brisbane District Court on Friday prosecutor Ross Martin SC confirmed the prosecution would be ready to proceed on June 29.
The trial is expected to run for at least four weeks.
During the trial the crown will allege Nuttall, 55, was involved in a number of corrupt payments with mining magnate Ken Talbot between 2002 and 2005.
Nuttall has pleaded not guilty to 35 charges of making and receiving corrupt payments totalling $300,000.
Talbot has pleaded not guilty to making payments to Nuttall and will stand trial later this year.
Nuttall will also defend one count of corruptly receiving $60,000 from WorkCover Queensland director Harold Shand in April 2002.
Shand's matter was also mentioned on Friday, and a two-week trial date set down for September.
The court was told there will likely also be a three-day pre-trial hearing in relation to Nuttall.
Dates will be allocated for this when the matter is mentioned again next month.
Neither Nuttall or Shand were present at court during Friday's mention.
