Park protesters given boot
9th January 2009
Dsigruntled residents from Nambour Caravan Park.
THE six residents of Nambour Caravan Park who took on the park's managers have been slapped with eviction notices.
The notices were handed out yesterday, the same day the Daily highlighted their feud with new managers Trevor and Lesley Dymock in a front-page article.
The six residents, who complained Mr and Mrs Dymock had implemented oppressive and discriminatory polices, have been given two months to leave.
But the six said they would fight the evictions in court, arguing the Dymocks and park owner Des Mitchell had retaliated after they dared to go to the media with their concerns.
Nine children have been affected by the decision.
Kristina Tucker said she was devastated about being evicted but remained unrepentant.
“I'm not sorry,” she said.
“Things like this need to be addressed.”
Ann Hansen, who will be kicked out along with her four children, said she was sick with worry.
“I've got nowhere to go,” she said.
Mr Mitchell handed out the eviction notices and cannot wait to see the back of what he regards as the park's troublemaking element.
He said most of the six were being evicted because they were behind in their rent while the others had been warned one too many times about their behaviour.
“There's only eight or 10 we're still having trouble with - once they're gone the park will be quiet again,” he said.
Mr Mitchell, who yesterday banned Ms Hansen's four children from riding their bikes in the park, said the six were among a small percentage of residents who did not want to follow the rules.
“It's like having a bad neighbour - they've got to go,” he said.
