3.3m intend to retire before 2028: ABS
7th November 2008
ABOUT 3.3 million people over 45 years old intend to retire between now and 2028, a survey shows.
Financial security is the main factor those people will use to determine when they leave the workforce, the Australian Bureau of Statistics survey found.
About one third of them said they would shift to part-time work before retirement.
Of those who had already retired - 1.9 million - health and physical abilities were the reason they left the workforce.
The survey also revealed that about 70 per cent of people aged 15 years and over had superannuation in 2007.
