Crikey! It's Steve Irwin Day

24th October 2008

The Sunshine Coast Daily
“BE passionate and enthusiastic in the direction that you choose in life, and you'll be a winner."
Steve Irwin

A winner is exactly how many view the legendary Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, whose colourful life will be remembered on November 15, when Australia Zoo celebrates Steve Irwin Day.

Terri, Bindi and Bob will be opening the famous zoo doors to reveal an exciting range of in-zoo activities, festivities, and fun for every member of the entire family.

Outside the zoo, there are many fundraising events that will help keep Steve’s legacy of wildlife conservation alive.

In honour of the Croc Hunter’s favourite uniform of khakis, you can host Khaki Day; a day of khaki fashion to be paraded around the house, school or office to help raise funds for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors.

Australia Zoo suggests organising a morning tea or other activities and collecting gold coin donations for all the khaki kookiness that will see participants pay homage to the Croc Hunter and his trademark threads.

By wearing khaki to Australia Zoo on Steve Irwin day, you will receive a 10% discount and a complimentary gift.

Unleash your inner Wildlife Warrior and immerse yourself in the great outdoors with a mini campout.

Join thousands of others, who – between November 14 and 17 – will grab their tinnies, snacks and sleeping bags and pitch tents in their very own plot of nature for a sponsored backyard campout.

Thankfully the chances of encountering a croc or venomous snake in your backyard are slim, making your alfresco slumber much less dangerous than the outdoor adventures of Steve Irwin, but no less fun.

If being a khaki king or a camping champion is not your thing, you may be inspired by other Steve Irwin Day fundraising ideas offered by Australia Zoo.

Your efforts will help the zoo continue its fight for all of Australia’s wildlife critters and may even win you some fantastic prizes, including an all expenses paid vacation to the Sunshine Coast and the chance to meet Terri and Bindi Irwin.

Don't forget to register your fundraising activities and start planning today.

To wrap it all up, a gala dinner will be held in Brisbane with auction items going under the hammer and the Irwin family paying tribute to the much missed Aussie icon.

So what are you waiting for? Make like a crocodile hunter and throw yourself in!

It’s bound to be a ripper of a day.
